Listen closely to these words and bind them upon your heart.
Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:6-9 (KJV)
Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, all evil speakings, As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious. To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed. But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light; Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. 1 Peter 2:1-10 (KJV)
The problem in this day is not that so many don't know who God is, it's that they have forgotten how to serve him. The world has tainted and watered things down so much that many have forgotten to keep their eyes on our Rabbi, Yeshua.
In Jewish culture, the student would do what his Rabbi did and this is also what Messiah taught us, to be like him.
The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord. It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household? Matthew 10:24-25 (KJV)
Those who live Godly lives will be looked upon as odd, different or peculiar. This world has its own "religion" but the people of God live for God and follow the Messiah. They are like the Messiah and when those who think they are odd, also think Messiah is odd.
Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways. Hebrews 3:10 (KJV)
Serving God is not just about accepting Christ, it has a lot to do with the things we do and the way we live our lives. God has established certain ways for us to live our life and be a light for him in this world. If we are truly in Christ God will produce fruit in us, but it's only God who can produce fruit in us. That's why Messiah told us how we can know another believer because of the works they do.
Many times people misunderstand the word "works" and its usage in scripture. It's a general term and covers many kinds of works both good and evil.
How many of us really spend time with God, to get to know him and to become like him?
Many will serve God according to their own thinking or the ways of man which have been instilled into them since childhood or because "everyone is doing it." I would warn anyone not to do something just because "everyone is doing it." The people of God are peculiar and don't do things that the majority does. They are peculiar, they follow Messiah because they love him and they obey him.
I've heard people say they love God and obey Christ but I know full well they don't even keep Sabbath, or their life does not reflect the love of God. They are living an image that some church or person painted for them, rather than reading the Bible to study the life of Christ so they can actually get to know him and become like him.
Deuteronomy 14:2… For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God, and the LORD hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth.
We see in scripture that God himself hallowed the Sabbath. The children of Israel were to keep the Sabbath. Messiah kept the Sabbath and is the LORD of the Sabbath. The early church kept the Sabbath. And after the Lord creates the new heaven and the new earth we will worship from one Sabbath to another. We have got to ask ourselves why are we now worshiping on Sunday (the first day of the week)? The deceiver knows that if we break one of God’s commandments, we are guilty of all (see James chpt. 2).
Isaiah 66:22-23… For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain. And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.
