Portrait of a Godly Woman
If you want to know about the average woman, just ask the average man. Many men spend a significant percentage of their time talking about women. Of course, all that conversation has never brought them any nearer to actually understanding the fairer gender. Nor has this dialogue been known for its depth. The qualities which seem to attract the most attention have little to do with a woman's true worth.
If we want to fully appreciate this value, we must not concern ourselves with the average woman but rather focus on the excellent woman.
If you are a single man, this is the kind of woman that you ought to be looking for. If you are a lady, this is the kind of woman you need to be striving to become.
The odds are stacking up against gals who long for a stable home and family. The pool of worthwhile, marriageable men is drying up and the rise of homosexuality has cut into that number.
Like it or not, it is a fact of life that the "market" favors the males and the numbers work to their advantage.
But be encouraged. While it is true that average women abound, an excellent woman is a rare find.
It's challenging to be a woman of God in today's world where such a role is fuzzy, distorted and attacked at its very foundation, the authority of God's Word. God created woman with a particular purpose in mind. I hope you're able to find your own purpose as a woman, for it is a noble role, one that can't be fulfilled without God's grace and his word hidden deep in your heart. I would like to say also that a woman of God is not one certain type of woman, she will have many different callings, different visions, different giftings.
A Godly woman is a woman who fears the Lord (Proverbs 31:30). When I speak of the fear of God, I am referring to a reverential awe for him, an overwhelming sense of his majesty, acknowledging his greatness and sovereignty. A woman who fears God is concerned about pleasing him. She is intentional and purposeful about knowing and doing the will of God. (Psalm 119.7)
She seeks God’s glory in everything she does, in the way she relates to her husband, children, relatives, friends etc., in her speech, her clothing and every area of her life. (1 Corinthians 10:31)
A Godly women embraces with joy and respects authorities which God places in her life whether husband, pastor, employer etc. because she recognises that it is for her good because God is good. She submits her whole life to God. She knows the gospel, she loves and delights in God’s word, she recognises that the preaching of the cross of Jesus is the power of God unto salvation. She knows that God’s word is the only source of godliness.
