Church in these days seems to mean different things to different people. When we seek a church to attend, we look for different things. The thing we wish to address here is when church becomes a place of entertainment.
Sometimes we hear, "I'd like to go to that church but it's small." So the question is, are you seeking fellowship or are you seeking a crowd that can provide entertainment? Many churches in this day have really accumulated a talented group of musicians and given them places in their church services, many even play rock music.
We live in a day when many people have itching ears, they want to hear what pleases them, rather than what convicts them and draws them closer to God. They have not endured sound doctrine.
2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
Messiah spoke of this also in the gospels:
Matthew 15:7 Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, 15:8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. 15:9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
1 Corinthians 14:26 How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.
The entertainment we see in many churches doesn't serve to edify the believer. So should church services be dull and boring? No, we think not, yet neither should they be filled with entertainment and gaiety. Church is a house of worship, not a theater.
Since rock music has a demonic origin, it has no place in the church. We are aware of people who will leave any church that plays rock music because of what they have been affected by, or the knowledge they have of this genre of music.
Simply put, rock music is NOT Holy. The origin of rock music or original use of rock music was to accompany pagan and or demonic rituals for the purpose of invoking spirits. You can read more information about it here.
